Comments:
The extraordinary growth rate of this cultivar, coupled with its precocious blooming character, makes for a great specimen-tree. Moonglow will grow to 5 ft. and bloom within 2-3 years. Selected and named by Earl Cully, this clone is surprisingly hardy to -33. Moonglow® Magnolia leaves are medium to dark green and lustrous with whitish undersides. The flowers are a beautiful creamy white 2 to 3" in diameter. Moonglow® Magnolia's SEMI-Evergreen foliage and upright growth habit will make an excellent addition to any landscape or garden where a small to medium size tree is desirable. Bloom-Time=~4-5-Yrs.... Bloomed-July-VERY, VERY FRAGRANT (Lemon-scented) . Absolute favorite!!!!
Experiment: I have one of my tallest-~15'- Tall very skinny, so I planted her in my yard, and after a year it started to put out new growth (branches) below, so, magnolias seem to grow first tall then fill out, some varieties.
Uses, characteristics: Grows in swamps in Eastern U.S. big evergreen or semi-evergreen tree in milder climates; deciduous shrub in colder areas. Leaves are big bright green on the front of the leaf and white to silver on the under-side. Branches are bright green, adding winter interest if leaves do fall. They normally drop if the outside temp gets below -33 degrees (mine haven’t fallen and I live in zone 8)-they’re evergreen.
Bloom-Time: I've been growing this cultivar for many years now and are (VERY, VERY Beautiful!!). All of the Bleuwood Moonglows are in bloom!! They are still budding- many stages!! Neat to watch… Still blooming in August-sweet scent…
New, Large Plugs (try to attach photo) or LP- available from February-April (I'll ship bare root with water polymers)...
