Magnolia ‘Figo’  or commonly referred to as a Banana Shrub

USDA Zones: 8-10 

Growth height:  NA-tall ~15’

Width:  NA-wide ~10-15’
Growing Conditions:  Well-drained soils…  Please note, a well drain soil is very important. 

Sunlight: Full Sun - Partial Shade (Banana Magnolia prefer growing conditions similar to Camellia and Azaleas).
Soil pH: Acidic (PH: 5-6)

Foliage: Evergreen Magnolia 
Bloom:  Bloom Buds which are a furry orangish cigar-shaped, start formation the previous late summer to fall…  Then start opening small, but very fragrant, creamy-yellow flowers from late spring through summer. The blossoms are beautiful and roughly ~1-across with each of six waxy petals delicately outlined in dark red. Leaves are narrow, oblong, glossy green, quite lovely. 

Notes:
It is called Banana Shrub because of the distinctive, sweet banana scent of its flowers. 

Banana Shrub is a beautiful and interesting large plant that is especially useful in shade gardens where it can serve as a background and windshield for smaller woodland plants. The fragrant banana scented flowers are fascinating in form and fragrance. Use near the front of borders, so fragrance can be enjoyed. It also attracts songbirds for your garden/patio.
