As a member of the "Little Girl" group of hybrid magnolias developed in the mid-fifties at the U.S. National Arboretum. Hardy Deciduous magnolia that grows vigorously into a rounded shrub/pyramidal tree, but, I’m training mine into a little tree-15-25’ with multi-stemmed. This Deep purple/red flowered shrub (Impressive with 7-9 petals that resemble a tulip) is very hardy or makes a beautiful small tree. Blooms mid to late March and may have a re-bloom in summer. Leaves are dark green and somewhat leathery in appearance. This shrub will brighten any landscape and is best used as a shrub border or specimen plant...
Bloom: 4-Sweet Cinnamon Scent-Blooms twice with fertilizer (light amount), just not after 2nd week of August The new growth will burn with cooler temperatures-made that mistake long ago!
